About

A young woman with long wavy hair, wearing a white shirt and dark blue pants, sitting on a stone ledge outdoors, smiling, with a wooden building in the background.

Nicole Frieling / N.P. Frieling writes young adult fantasy rooted in power, choice, and becoming. Her work explores the tension between what we’re given and who we choose to become.

She lives in Montana, where her days are shaped by movement, land, and the rhythms of family life. As a mother, yoga teacher, and partner in a multigenerational farming family, she is drawn to the quiet intersections of discipline and devotion—where growth is earned slowly, and transformation rarely announces itself all at once. She also teaches and conducts research at Montana State University, where she studies students’ experiences of belonging.

The same questions she explores in her research live at the heart of her stories: strength and softness, expectation and choice, belonging and independence. Her writing is driven by a deep belief that becoming is not a single moment, but a series of decisions—some bold, some quiet—that carry us forward.
